GTA Vice City's radio stations are widely considered the best soundtrack in any GTA game. Set in 1986, the music is a perfect cross-section of the era — synth-pop, hard rock, hip hop, new wave, and smooth R&B. Many players spend as much time cruising with the radio on as they do completing missions. Here's everything you need to know about all nine stations.
DJ Fernando Martinez hosts this station with a melodramatic, romantic flair. Emotion plays the softer side of 1980s radio — heartfelt ballads and smooth pop that feel perfect for a neon-lit drive along the beach strip at dusk. Highlights include I Just Died in Your Arms Tonight by Cutting Crew and Take My Breath Away by Berlin. Fernando's over-the-top monologues about love and heartbreak are genuinely funny and earned him a cult following among players.
The pop hits station, hosted by Toni (voiced by a female DJ). Flash FM plays the biggest commercial hits of the era — synth-heavy, polished, and impossible to hate. Tracks include Feels Like Heaven by Fiction Factory, Video Killed the Radio Star by The Buggles, and Cruel Summer by Bananarama. If you want an authentic 1986 radio experience, Flash FM is the closest thing to actual Top 40 radio of the time.
Hosted by the manic Couzin Ed, V-Rock is the loudest station on the dial. Hair metal, hard rock and early metal dominate — I Wanna Rock by Twisted Sister, Hot For Teacher by Van Halen, Bark at the Moon by Ozzy Osbourne and Round and Round by Ratt are all here. Perfect for chases, rampages and anything that needs energy. Couzin Ed's unhinged DJ persona is one of the best characters in the entire game.
The hip hop and electro station, hosted by Mr. Magic and Mister Cee. Wildstyle plays early 1980s and mid-80s hip hop — the genre was still young and raw. Tracks include Rockit by Herbie Hancock, Looking for the Perfect Beat by Afrika Bambaataa, and Beat Bop by Rammellzee & K-Rob. This is genuinely important music history — some of the earliest hip hop to appear on a mainstream platform, delivered with reverence.
The smoothest station in Vice City. Fever 105 is hosted by Oliver "Ladykiller" Biscuit and plays classic R&B and funk from the late 70s and early 80s — Le Freak by Chic, Candy Rain by Soul for Real, Outstanding by The Gap Band. The vibe is cool, seductive, and perfect for cruising Starfish Island in an Infernus. Oliver's commentary is slick and often hilarious.
Possibly the most iconic station in Vice City, hosted by Adam First. Wave 103 plays the coolest end of 1980s music — angular, electronic, post-punk influenced synth pop. Self Control by Laura Branigan, In the Air Tonight by Phil Collins (yes, that song), Driver's Seat by Sniff 'n' the Tears. Adam First's affected, too-cool DJ persona perfectly parodies the pretentious new wave DJs of the era. This station probably gets more play time from most players than any other.
VCPR is Vice City Public Radio — a parody of NPR talk radio. No music, just long panel discussions that descend into absurdist arguments. Hosted by Maurice Chavez, the show has guests including a conspiracy theorist, a fundamentalist preacher, a feminist activist and various other caricatures who argue about modern life with increasing hostility. It's comedy gold and one of the most creative parts of the whole game. Put it on for a long drive and just listen.
Vice City's Spanish-language station caters to the Cuban and Haitian communities. VCFL plays Latin music of the era — salsa, cumbia and merengue — and is entirely in Spanish. Its DJ Pepe gives it a genuinely authentic feel that adds to Vice City's multicultural setting.
Rise FM plays electronic dance music — early house, synth dance and club tracks from the mid-80s. Tracks include The Mexican by Babe Ruth and various electronic instrumentals. Less prominent than the other stations but solid for a certain mood.
"The Vice City soundtrack isn't just background music. It's arguably the most carefully curated soundtrack in video game history — every track fits the setting perfectly, and discovering new songs while driving around the city is part of what made 2002 players fall in love with the game."
